    Started from the itch.io page with Run game (it takes about 20 seconds to load), moved the knight on the map into a camp and played the first moves of a timed battle, in headless Chrome on macOS at 1280 x 720 with the mouse.

About this game

Rooklite mixes chess with a roguelite run. Your knight leaps across a map laid out like a chessboard, and the squares behind it crumble, so every route is a choice. Each rival camp is a small board of its own: step onto it and the game zooms in for a battle, where your king and a few pieces drawn from your army face the enemy's.

Only checkmate wins a battle. Each one starts with a short clock that gains time with every move, so if it runs out, the run ends. Along the way the developer describes shops, forges, elites and a boss, and defeated pieces can join your army. It is played with the mouse: click a piece, then the square to move it to.

This free demo is the complete first world, Tide; the developer, Elias Guyd, plans the full game with four worlds for Steam in early 2027. The itch.io page also offers downloads for Windows and Linux, which HeapPlay did not check. In a phone browser the game showed only as a small strip across the screen, so HeapPlay lists it for computers only.
