About this game

Each day Contour Guesser shows a view across open country and a contour map 10 km across, with north at the top. From the shapes and heights of the hills, you place your person on the map where you think the view was taken and turn them to face the same way. Each summit on the map is marked with its height and with what covers it: snow, rock or grass.

Locking in a guess scores up to 700 points for the place and 300 for the direction, and the map then shows the true spot beside yours. You place yourself with a click and nudge with WASD, turn with Q and E or by dragging the compass, and lock in with Enter. After the daily map there is a practice mode, and the game keeps a streak and simple statistics.

The game is by David Strachan and runs on his own website.
